This story was written during the 2009 holiday season and submitted for competition in Writecorner Press' 2010 E. M. Koeppel Short Fiction Contest.

In June, 2010, Robert O. Harder was awarded one of the ten Honorable Mentions for My Turn in the Barrel, the second award he has received for his short fiction.

He is now flattering himself the first award was not a fluke and that perhaps his yet-to-be-written short fiction and novel length stories may have a future. To that end, and to quote Ms. Koeppel and Mr. Gentry, "Your story has much merit. Keep plugging and good luck with your writing."
